Carmen Viola, Certified Web Designer
I began as a secretary in HR in advertising, taking dictation in shorthand and transcribing my notes on a typewriter with typebars. By my next job, an agency VP in insurance, the IBM Selectric typewriter had emerged. Then after a few years working for architects and engineers and a housing rehab business, the world beckoned... so I embarked on a 5 year career as an international flight attendant for Pan Am.
When motherhood clipped my wings, an opportunity arose to undergo yoga teacher training, having practiced yoga since 1975. I became certified as an Iyengar Yoga Teacher in 1995, built a home yoga studio, developed and continue to direct a community yoga program.
My secretarial skills were reapplied to desktop publishing - creating business forms for myself and other entrepreneurs starting small businesses.Aftera friend asked to collaborate with a website designer, who showed me how to update content and upload pages so that I could maintain my friend's site, I subsequently learned how to design sites through trial and error. Several years later I managed a site re-design and development for IYNAUS, editing and writing content, testing user-interface, and designing forms - merging yoga, information and document design with web design.
More than a decade passed before I enrolled in the Bellevue College web design program to learn web design from the ground up: information design, javascript, html, css, web graphics, and flash - exponentially expanding my knowledge and receiving a Web Designer Certificate.
As a sole proprietor, I use my diverse experience to specialize in web design and business document creation for the entrepreneur and small business owner.
